What is a Lazy Eye?

This exercise is also known as HBPP (Home Based Pencil Push-Ups) and will help to keep both the eyes on the fixed point.  Hold a pencil (or a pen) in front of you directly and choose a focal point (this can be a tip of the pencil, the eraser at the last or a letter/number on the side) and keep both the eyes set on the part. Slowly, slowly move the pencil or pen closer towards you and towards the tip of your nose. Keep the pencil at the center as long as you can and discontinue the exercise till the whole thing turns fuzzy.

Frederick Brock, an optometrist of Switzerland described this exercise, designated for the improvement of your coordination. If you are suffering from one lazy eye constantly, the Brook String Exercises will support both the eyes to work mutually. Apply a piece of string (between 5 and 12 inches long) and wind it with three different colored beads with identical beads at equal space from each other. Join one end of the string to a rail or attach it to the wall and hold the other end of the string to your nose. Take it in turns to look at each bead and you should see the same thing each time, the bead you are focussing on should merge to be at the meeting point of two equal strings forming an “X” shape. If the “X” appears before or after the bead you’re focusing on then it means that one of your eyes is not looking at the bead. Continue practicing until you get it right with all three beads.

Exercise 3: Computer Therapy

If you would like to go for an exercise which is rapid and simple, there are various computer-based eye exercise programmes that could facilitate to recover the muscle movement of your eyes. Sit 1-2 feet distance away from your computer monitor, cover up your eyes (or take it in turns to cover each eye) and follow the red dot around the screen.  Ensure that you keep your focus on the red dot and don’t get diverted by the black and white background.

Ask the member to move the object from side to side, and by covering your leading eye, move your lazy eye on that path for 30 seconds to one minute during the day.

Amblyopia or Lazy Eye Treatments

Early treatment of lazy eye (amblyopia) is usually simple, employing eyeglasses, drops, Vision Therapy, and/or eye patching. While detection and correction before the age of two are considered to offer the best outcomes, 21st-century scientific research has disproven the long-held belief that children over a certain age (seven or whatever) cannot be successfully treated. In fact, many scientific studies have said that therapies can recover the vision of the adults and the adolescents who are suffering from lazy eye or amblyopia.
